Jack Wagner - The Voice in the Monorails
Most of Jack Wagner's Disney recordings were made at his own house where he had a recording studio (which was installed by Disney in the 1970s).
A voice-over booth in his home was connected to Studio D at Disneyland in Anaheim.
At the time, Jack's home in Southern California was one of the first to use a direct audio link from a remote recording studio!

Statement made by Jack Bohannan on Hidden Mickeys
"I would like to set the record straight on the voice. Throughout the 1970's and into the 1980's the voice heard on all Disney monorails, as well as most all the voiceover work for all the parks was the legendary "Voice of Disney", Jack Wagner.I have had the privilege of working with him many times through the years.One interesting side note is that Jack's home in Southern California was one of the first uses for a direct audio link from a remote recording studio. It was put in by Disney in the 70's and connected a voiceover booth in his home to Studio D at Disneyland in Anaheim. He frequently would receive last minute calls for special events and was able to just walk over to the booth and "beam" it directly to the park. Anyhow, with the amount of work that Florida was generating after Epcot and the Studios opened, plus the fact that Jack wanted to head towards retiring sometime, other voice talent was sought out locally in Florida.There have been several people used in voiceover work since then, one of them being Kevin Miles, who is one of the original members of the Voices of Liberty at Epcot, and can still be heard there daily. Kevin recorded the monorail voiceovers after the Grand Floridian was built, and his voice was still there until the 25th Anniversary rolled around, when it was updated by one of the new voiceover talents.The amount of voiceover work at the parks now is astronomical, and it is shared by a couple of people who have "the voice", including Kevin. Interestingly enough, though, Jack's voice can still be heard welcoming everyone to Orlando on the monorails at the airport terminals."

The only People to ever live at Disneyland
Disneyland's only residents were Owen and Dolly Pope. They were hired in 1951 to put together some livestock for Walt's future park. They first lived in a trailer at the Disney Studio where they raised and trained horses. Three days before Disneyland opened, they moved into the park to run the Disneyland Pony Farm

"In 1951, Walt hired Harper Goff to begin drawing up plans for the little park he was visualizing being built on the Studio grounds in Burbank. Walt also hired horse trainer Owen Pope and his wife Dolly. He wanted the couple to begin training horses for the western section of his new park. Being close to the livestock was necessary for the amount of training that was to ensue so the Pope’s moved into a trailer on the Studio lot. Besides teaching horses and mules how to behave, they also helped build wagons and coaches for the new park.
As plans for Walt’s dream changed and grew, the location of his park moved from the Studio to Anaheim. Eventually the Popes needed to move to Anaheim as well to be near the horses.
Before construction began on Disneyland, something had to be done with the houses that belonged to the former owners of the land. Walt told the Popes they could choose any one of them to live in. Their selection was soon moved to a ten acre area behind what would eventually become Fantasyland. This area was known as the Pony Farm and at one time, the Pope’s cared for as many as 220 animals. The Popes are also the only people to actually ever live at Disneyland. Walt may have had an apartment above the Fire Station, but he never lived there. This honor belongs to the Popes alone.
The Popes continued working and living at Disneyland until 1971. It was at this time that they moved to Florida to help open the Magic Kingdom. They created the Tri Circle D Ranch at Fort Wilderness where it still stands today. They retired in 1975 and it’s due to their efforts here in Florida that they earned a window at the Magic Kingdom – and it is appropriately located on the Car Barn."

750 "Hippies" infiltrate Disneyland
August 06, 1970
A bizarre occurence takes place at Disneyland when 750 "Hippies" and "Radical Yippies" infiltrate the park, and take over the Wilderness Fort. They raise the Vietcong flag and pass reefers out to passersbys.
Later, they march in a Main Street parade, and sing their own lyrics to "Zipadee Doo Dah" ("Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Mihn is going to win..."). More conservative park guests try to drown them out by singing "America the Beautiful." Before the confrontation can heat up, a platoon of Anaheim Police officers in full riot gear pour into the park from backstage areas! A riot is adverted and Disneyland vice president of Operations Dick Nunis orders the park closed at 7:10 PM. For many years afterward Disneyland will selectively enforced a "dress code" at the park, occasionally refusing admission to "long-haired hippies". (This unusual incident is the only time an outside security force has ever made a full-blown public appearance at the park.)

First Disneyland Fireworks
Disneyland premiered its first fireworks presentation in 1956.
The show was actually created by hand - with employees touching off the
fuses with a flare! (A few years later, technology enabled fireworks to
be launched electronically and synchronized with a soundtrack.)
“MAGICAL” – FIREWORKS BY THE NUMBERS
- The pyrotechnic devices are fully choreographed to “Magical’s” musical soundtrack, using 750 discreet digital control channels.
- Guests see the burst of fireworks before hearing it because light travels roughly a million times faster than sound.
- The Disney Air Launch system installed in 2004 creates less ground level smoke than the former system that used black powder.
- Disney is recognized as the world’s largest producer of fixed-base fireworks shows, at its parks in the United States, France, Japan and China.
A SPARKLING HISTORY OF FIREWORKS AT DISNEYLAND
- Disneyland opened to the public in July 1955. There was no fireworks show that year.
- In 1956, after seeing fireworks tests in the Disneyland parking lot when the park was closed, Walt Disney said, “Let’s give it a try.”
- Mickey Aronson, who worked in Disneyland Resort Entertainment for more than 50 years (originally as an outside fireworks consultant), began “shooting” Disneyland fireworks the summer of 1956. In those days, Aronson fired the show by hand, touching off the fuses with a flare.
- Beginning in the late 1960s, Disneyland Entertainment developed a system for firing the shells electronically, synchronized to a musical soundtrack.
- During this period, the fireworks “choreography” was storyboarded like an animated cartoon. At one time, the storyboard artist was Roy Williams, the “Big Mooseketeer” from “The Mickey Mouse Club.”
- The current system, with its multiple fireworks launch sites, special lighting and lasers, and high-tech marriage of music and choreographed pyrotechnics, was first installed for the 2000 Bicentennial/Disneyland 45th Anniversary show, “Believe…There’s Magic in the Stars.”
Elaborate
fireworks shows synchronized with Disney songs and often have
appearances from Tinker Bell or Dumbo, flying in the sky above Sleeping
Beauty Castle. Since 2000, presentations have become more elaborate,
featuring new pyrotechnics, launch techniques and story lines. In 2004,
Disneyland introduced a new air launch pyrotechnics system, reducing
ground level smoke and noise and decreasing negative environmental
impacts. At the time the technology debuted, Disney announced it would
donate the patents to a non-profit organization for use throughout the
industry.

the Holiday Season, there is a special fireworks presentation called
Believe... In Holiday Magic which has been running since 2000, except
for a short hiatus in 2005 during the park's 50th Celebration.
Scheduling
of fireworks shows depend on the time of year, during the slower
off-season periods, the fireworks are only offered on weekends. During
the busier times, Disney does offer additional nights, such as an extra
night for a 3 day holiday. Also, Disney does offer Fireworks nightly
during its busy periods, which includes Easter/Spring Break, Summer and
Christmas time.
The show is normally offered at 9:25 PM if the park is scheduled to close at 10 PM or later, but shows have started as early as 5:45 PM. Also, a major consideration is weather/winds, especially at higher elevations, which can force the cancellation of the show. Disney usually waits an additional time (15 minutes) to see if the winds die down. Shows, with a few minor exceptions, such as July 4 and New Year's Eve, must finish by 10 PM due to the conditions of the permit issued by the City of Anaheim.

Disneyland Fun Facts - The Enchanted Tiki Room, Sleeping Beauty Castle & Haunted Mansion
The Enchanted Tiki Room: Walt's inspiration for the Tiki Room
-- the first show featuring fully synchronized Audio-Animatronics
figures -- came from a small mechanical birdcage that he found at a New
Orleans antique shop. He was so fascinated by the birds in the cage that
he bought two of them -- one to display and one to take apart. One of
the original birdcages can usually be seen in the reproduction of Walt's
office located in The Walt Disney Story attraction on Main Street;
however, it's been temporarily relocated to the "One Man's Dream"
exhibit at Disney-MGM Studios in Florida as part of their 100 Years of
Magic celebration.
Haunted Mansion: The singing busts in the Graveyard scene represent the singing group the Mello Men, who also play the parts of the singing cards in Disney's "Alice in Wonderland," and can be heard on Alice's attraction singing "Painting the Roses Red."
Sleeping Beauty Castle: A special spot just beneath Sleeping Beauty Castle marks the original center of the park, before Critter Country or Mickey's Toontown were added. As you emerge on the other side of the tunnel into Fantasyland, there's a golden spike driven into the ground -- look for it on your next visit!

1966 - Disneyland Topiaries
The tradition of Disney Topiaries began in 1966 when Disneyland horticulturalists sculpted larger-than-lifesize characters in Fantasyland, in particular surrounding the It's a Small World attraction. At Disney World, the process began 3 years before the resort’s 1971 opening and is still evolving today at the WDW Nursery!

40th anniversary of Disneyland
To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Disneyland, Disney created a series of 41 collector cards, one for each year the park had been open. A card for each year represented an event or an attraction. The cards were handed out to visitors to the park starting with the "1955" card on January 21,1995 and ending March 2, 1995 with the "1995" card.
Tomorrow is Disneyland's Birthday :)

1960 Monorail Board Game
Parker Brothers released the Disneyland Monorail Game in 1960. The object of the board game was to be the first player to complete the Monorail Ride and finish ahead of Casey Jr.

At Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, the image of Madame Leota is that of former Disney Imagineer Leota Toombs Thomas. But Madame's voice is supplied by Eleanor Audley (the voice of Maleficent in Disney's Sleeping Beauty).

The STR Symbol at the Partners Statue
The Partners bronze statue of Walt and Mickey appear in Disney theme parks all over the world. The STR symbol on Walt's tie refers to Smoke Tree Ranch, a place in Palm Springs, California, where he had a vaction home.

The Magic of Disneyland - Tinker Bell's Airplane
On April 07, 2005, a themed airplane adorned with the image of Tinker Bell on the fuselage and golden Mickey Mouse ears on the tail from Alaska Airlines soars into Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The bright blue Boeing 737-400 named the "Magic of Disneyland" celebrates the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney's Anaheim park.
"This is only the second time in more than 25 years that an image other than our trademark Eskimo has appeared on an Alaska Airlines aircraft," said Gregg Saretsky, Alaska's executive vice president of marketing and planning. "I can't think of a better way to congratulate our good friends and partners at Disneyland on their 50th anniversary than to launch this flying invitation to visit ‘The Happiest Place on Earth.'"
"We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Alaska Airlines by introducing a second Disneyland-themed aircraft just in time for the upcoming May 5 launch of our 50th anniversary," said Claire Bilby, senior vice president of Disneyland sales and distribution marketing. "We look forward to having the ‘Magic of Disneyland' aircraft serve as an iconic vehicle to bring people to Southern California for our ‘Happiest Homecoming On Earth' celebration."
As to the choice of Tinker Bell — whose words on the side of the aircraft beckon "Follow me to Disneyland" — Bilby noted that the famous pixie is the official hostess of Disneyland. "In the 1950s when Walt Disney shared his new theme park with television audiences across America, Tinker Bell often took the audience on aerial flights to Disneyland. Her pixie dust, filled with the power to make you fly, became the magic ingredient that could transport audiences anywhere."
